New York, NY – The 2009 edition of the F2000 Championship Series promises to be the most competitive season yet. The series will feature an exciting crop of rookie drivers and teams, all looking to contend for race wins and the overall championship.
After a very successful two-day test at Putnam Park, young karting standout and Skip Barber graduate Benjamin Searcy has signed with ZSports Midwest to run the highly competitive 2009 Formula 2000 Championship Series.
Let’s review a little background. I’m older than you, …hell, I’m older than dirt. I’m almost as old as Rand. I started hanging on fences watching road races in 1962. I camped in the infield at Road Atlanta in 1970 for the first Runoffs at that famous venue. I have always had a special attraction to open wheel racing, especially the highly competitive small bore classes.
The depth of the 2009 F2000 Championship Series has increased, with the announcement that Matthew Inge will return for a second season with former champions St. Clair Motorsports.
But, hey, that may be a good thing. There is a lot of racing history in the Dan River area of Virginia. For serious roundy-round guys there is almost no more famous track than South Boston Speedway. And just up the road a piece from Danville is Martinsville. Watching the NASCAR big boys play in that bullring is about as exciting as racin’ gets. Reach out and touch the cars on the track, or the freight train rumbling by under the east stands.
After announcing their return to the series, Group A Racing is pleased to announce that they have signed Colin Alexander for his rookie season in the F2000 Championship Series.
Alexander got his first taste of Group A Racing and their F2000 Zetec cars, during a test at the New Jersey Motorsports Park. On a rain soaked weekend, Colin showed excellent driving skills and car control while coming to grips with a pro spec F2000 car.
After her impressive debut with the team in 2008 at Mosport, Ontario Formula Ford standout Caitlin Johnston will contest the 2009 F2000 Championship Series with ZSports Midwest.
Her comfort with the ZSports crew was immediately apparent at Mosport - by the second practice session she was fourth fastest in a strong field and qualified and finished in the top ten.
